Carol Lo-Introduction

Hi all,

I'm am delighted to be working on the Future Ready with the Library project with you. I've been an elementary public school teacher, environmental educator and trainer, restaurant owner (in Memphis and Little Rock), massage therapist, Fire Department safety educator and librarian. At the Seattle Public Library, I managed to be a children, young adult and adult librarian. Between those careers, I've had many other jobs, so career readiness and college preparation (I'm the first in my family to go) is near and dear to me. I think it's worth saying I grew up on a

small dairy farm-a recipe for being poor. I remember the first word I ever learned to read: "Acme"from the Bugs Bunny cartoons. I read mostly non-fiction these days.

I want this curriculum to be stimulating, challenging, thoughtful, fresh, and never boring. Your input is vital. We will all learn from one another, our community partners and especially the middle school students and their families. We plan to model the behavior we hope to encourage.  2017 is an extraordinary time. Never a better moment to step up and engage in developing equity in opportunities for diverse communities. We will be leaders in creating environments that bring our communities together to foster better lives for us all.
