Do - As you go out into the community to learn more and consider your potential community partners, you will need to be able to talk about the work you are doing and why. To that end we would like you to:

Write and practice delivering a 2-minute explanation of the Future Ready with the Library project to quickly convey the grant goals, the importance of the work, why you’re involved, and why it’s important for the community to be involved as well. Think carefully about the audience you will be presenting to and how to customize the pitch based on your audience.  Remember the tips in the article listed above.  Practice with your staff and your Future Ready group.

Have at least one member of your group post their Elevator Speech to the Community of Practice as a reply to this post and all members of the cohort should respond to at least two pitches with comments and suggestions.  We want to make sure all comments and suggestions are meaningful so be careful not to just say, “great job” or “me too.”  Think carefully about what you would want to know about your pitch and then provide feedback based on that.

Goal - Community leaders and partners are busy and probably NOT accustomed to thinking about college and career readiness for middle school students. You may only have a short time to capture their attention and explain quickly and clearly why community partnership and raising awareness for middle school students and their families is important for your community. This is your chance to do that.
