Sharing my progress

I thought I would share my progress with everyone. I am moving right along with the planning and I now have a tentative agenda for the Future Ready camp. I had fewer people show up to my second planning meeting, but I don't think that my community partners are falling off, I just think that summer is a very busy time for many of the groups that I have asked to help. The biggest thing is money. Because the partners I have are funded through federal grants, most of them do not have the ability to purchase food on their budgets. We had a great idea given to us to ask the Summer Food Program, all students on the reservation up to age 18, qualify and get free school lunch, and qualify for the free summer feeding program. We are all getting excited about the event. My high school interns are sad that they can't be in the camp, but when I told them that they would be helping teach the middle school kids, they were really excited. I think they have some great insight, and will be good to have to help set up the team building exercises. Today we are booking our career specialists, and we hope to have people who can not only talk about their careers, but can excite the students by showing them some of the tools of their trade.

The best piece of advice was to include the families, in order to have the message sink in better. I am excited to have the family dinner, so that parents, and other siblings will be excited about college and career readiness.  I'm attaching my minutes, flier, and tentative agenda, so that you can see my process in action. I can't wait to see/hear how everyone else is doing.
