Amy Straube - Introduction

Hello, I'm Amy and I bring an different perspective to the group I think. I'm actually a licensed K - 12 Business Education teacher in Minnesota which means I am a vocational certified career teacher as part of my license . We have a statute in MN that requires all students start career exploration by 9th grade. Many meetings with our State Education Dept later and our department created our schools curriculum. Along with teaching ninth grade career and computer readiness, I continued trying to expand the interest in higher level computer courses like AP Computer Science, PLTW Computer Science and Web Design, but the courses did failed to run over time.

As the courses stopped running, our building was not able to find a qualified Media Specialist when ours retired and due to the unique duties, I was a good fit. I am in my second year and love it. I almost switched majors in college but was advised against it because librarians were a dying profession (1994). My days are now spent learning and administering Follett Destiny Library Manager for the district, managing the 7-12 collection at the JSHS, preparing our 7-12 Media Center to be boxed up, packed away for a year while our building is totally remodeled. I will get to open back up as a Learning Commons. I have many questions that I hope the MidWinter meeting will help me answer about converting. I am also the unofficial help desk for student/staff technology hardware or software issues. There are a bunch of other duties that we'll discuss during our time together.

I'm looking very forward to this project and meeting/working with everyone!

Amy
