Do

  • March’s action plan is to create a list of potential partners, calling/writing people to set up an appointment to talk and LISTEN to their concerns and ideas. You will meet with at least 4 potential community partners within the month (Please do not meet with more than one potential partner in your school).
  • If you do meet with someone in a school, try branching out to meet with someone there who really connects with the community. Follow your leads and intuition to discover who may be able to help you plan something new. Sometimes the principal, librarian, English teacher (our usual suspects) are great and sometimes they are not. Use this project as an excuse to try something new.

By the end of March, you will answer these questions:

  1. Who did you talk with? (4 potential community partner minimum)
  2. Who seems to be a promising Community Partner? (note: this assessment may change-that is expected)
  3. Why? (This is really the most important question)
  4. What did you learn from the community partner - what are their needs, how do they “fit” within the world of middle school college and career readiness, what do you still want to know about or from this potential partner?
  5. What expectations did the Partner seem to have of you?
  6. What are your expectations of how you would like to partner with them?
  7. How much input did their staff have on meeting/working with you?
  8. How much input did your staff have in your decision to seek this Community Partner?

* It is important to remember, these are initial conversations. Expectations, logistics and scope of outcomes will morph before your actual plan is carried out. We want to know what you plan in the beginning, how and why it changes, and what it looks like (and how is it different) once it’s implemented. Think and talk about outcomes-refer to the Action Strategy for more on this important issue.
