Zombie Party

Breana Bowen September 5, 2018

NEWS ALERT:  The zombies have risen and are taking over!  If you are dying to come to the library, join us for a Zombie Party!  We will stagger the night away with stories, games, treats, dancing, and more!

This was a fun zombie party for tweens and teens.

Type: Active
Age: High school
Optimal size: 20+
Estimated cost: $26 - $50
Planning time: <2 hours
Frequency: One-time

Learning outcomes

  1. We simply wanted our tweens and teens to have seasonal fun at the library.
  2. We also wanted to introduce our teens to some of our spooky resources we have available.

Instructions

  1. We picked out a date for our program. We had to be careful not to overlap with a community event. We selected a date a few weeks before Halloween.
  2. We planned our party. We gathered zombie books. We planned a thriller style dance party. We also created several game stations: create zombie survival kits, costume contest, weaponry station, and more.
  3. We made sure we had lots of scary treats: popcorn "brain" balls, intestines (pizza bread), dead fingers (bread sticks with almond slivers), blood juice, and more.
  4. We invited everyone to the party. Sent promotions to schools, the paper, put it on our social media, etc.
  5. Had our party. It was a blast!

Evaluation

  1. The kids all told us they had a blast.
  2. Our zombie and Halloween books were checked out. Wooooohoooooo!

I suggest really deciding when would be the perfect day for your event. We had ours a few weeks before Halloween, so we wouldn't conflict with other community events. I wish we would have had it closer to Halloween. I think tweens and teens would have been more excited for the event if we picked a later date.
